: Douglas R. Hoffman was appointed State's Attorney of Jefferson County on January 1, 2012, to complete the unexpired term of Nicole L. Villani. At the time of his appointment, State's Attorney Hoffman was serving as an Assistant State’s Attorney in the Jefferson County State's Attorney's Office. In that capacity, he prosecuted felony drug cases and handled various civil issues.
Prior to joining the Jefferson County State's Attorney's Office, Mr. Hoffman practiced law for five years at the Mt. Vernon law firm of Campbell, Black, Carnine, Hedin, Ballard & McDonald, P.C. His practice consisted of general civil litigation in the areas of real property law, oil and gas law, contract law, creditor bankruptcy, mortgage foreclosure, insurance defense, and workers’ compensation defense.
Mr. Hoffman graduated magna cum laude from Southern Illinois University School of Law in 2006. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2003. Hoffman is a lifelong resident of Jefferson County and is an alumnus of Mt. Vernon Township High School. He and his wife reside in Mt. Vernon.
